Welcome to my class. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with your child. I am providing the following information to make the school year more successful.

Agenda: Your child will be bringing home his/her agenda each night. Their homework for a given evening will be written next to the appropriate date. Homework, graded schoolwork, flyers, notices from the school and notes form me will be in the pocket at the front of your child’s agenda planner. You will need to sign your child’s agenda every night, as I will be checking it every morning. Their agenda is a great way for us to communicate.

Homework: If your child has homework, it will be on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Occasionally, your child will bring a textbook home. As these books are extremely expensive, please make sure your child takes extra care in maintaining them. All homework is due at 8:00 am the morning after it is assigned. They will receive a behavior slip for late work. However, if it is not turned in by 8:00 am on the second morning, they will receive a 0% on the assignment.

Spelling: Your child will have 20 spelling words each week. They are required to write their words in their agenda planners on Monday. We will have a practice test on Wednesday. If your child receives a 100% on Wednesday, they will NOT have to take their spelling test on Friday.

Library Books: Your child should bring home two library books each evening. Please encourage them to read at least 15 minutes each evening. If your child earns 5 AR points in a month they will receive a Pizza Hut Book It coupon.

Discipline: I use behavior slips in my classroom as a tool to encourage positive behavior and as a means of communicating with you. The items your child will be disciplined for are:
Talking Materials Not Ready
Not Paying Attention Out of seat
Horseplay

Consequences:
If your child receives 5 behavior slips during a week, they will miss recess on the day the fifth behavior slip is incurred. 10 behavior slips in a week will result in a 30 minute detention, with me, after school on the day the 10th slip is incurred.

Rewards: On days that you child does not receive an r-slip, they will be rewarded with a tally mark on their discipline chart in my classroom. After your child receives five stars, they will get to choose a subject in which to have a free day. Once your child fills their chart they will get to read to a first grade class.


Please feel free to visit with me about anything you feel is pertinent to your child’s education and well being in my classroom. Unless it is an emergency, I ask that you contact my either before school (7:45 – 8:00) or after school (3:30 – 3:45), as we try to keep the school day as normal as possible.
